Taru bred the female Mawar in July 1993, which led to the birth of Chyntia in January 1995. Mawar did not accept the calf and was unable to care for the newborn, eventually no longer able to eat and died three days after the birth. The calf was subsequently hand-raised by zoo staff. At her birth, Chyntia measured 82 centimeters high at the shoulder and weighed 55 kilograms. In August 1996, Cynthia and Nova were sold to the Berlin Tierpark but were transferred to the Halle Zoo for six years until arriving in Berlin in March 2003. Contradictory records: The European Asian Elephant Studbook lists Cynthia's birth on 2009-01-21. However, according to an article written by the TSI's veterinarians, she was born 2009-01-12. In addition, the 2007 European Asian Studbook lists Cynthia and Nova as being transferred to Halle from Indonesia six years before another transfer to Berlin Tierpark, whereas the 2008 version states ownership was taken by Berlin a day before their trip to Halle.
