Tushes are small, short Tusks, with no pulp inside, typical for female Asian elephants. About 50% of female Asian elephants have tushes, the others nothing.

In captivity, sometimes tushes are trimmed or cut, to reduce risks for wounds, if the females have conflicts and fight. The tushes can be cut with a wire, but cold water should always be applied, to reduce the temperature, and pain for the elephant. Othervise the tooth gets hot, and will cause pain.
