Martha Washington was born wild at Kenya unspecified location.

We are very sad to report that Martha Washington, the long-standing Matriarch of the First Ladies, has died. The body of Martha (aged in her 50s) was found west of Samburu National Reserve by members of our Long Term Monitoring team on Saturday. Martha was one of the oldest matriarchs within the Group of elephants that we study in northern Kenya. She was a mother to four daughters, two sons and was also a grandmother. Her daughters - the youngest is eight, are still with the First Ladies. The males dispersed from the family Group when they were teenagers. It is likely Martha died of old age but her condition may have deteriorated during the drought that has gripped the north.
