2024-02-20: Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium announced Tuesday it has welcomed another addition to the family. The zoo says Omma, a 12-year-old mother in the zoo’s African elephant herd, gave birth to a male calf just before 9 a.m. Sunday. This marks the fifth African elephant calf born at the zoo. He joins 6-month-old Amandra, 1-year-old Mopani, and 2-year-olds Eugenia and Sonny, all half-siblings. The new calf’s birth brings the total number of elephants in Omaha’s Herd to 10. The father of the calf is 23-year-old Callee. He left Omaha last May for the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas, as recommended by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ African Elephant Species Survival Plan.
