Buki
(accident)
2011-02-22: Colomb fell off the elephant Buki after the elephant was attacked the elephant Bookburg. The pachyderm Bookburg later stomped to death a Swiss woman in her 60s who had the misfortune of being put on its back. The most badly injured among the survivors was 45-year-old Christine Colomb, who described the deceased woman as “her closest friend”. Mrs Colomb suffered a broken rib and other injuries when she fell of, while her best friend was killed in the tragedy. Mrs Colomb’s wounds were sustained when large tree branches hit her torso as the elephant fled in fear and were not deliberately inflicted by the animal. Transported to Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket City, where she was in intensive care (ICU) after the incident. Connected to several tubes to assist her breathing and help treat a punctured lung, the 45-year-old had to stay longer time in hospital than the other victims, who were released March 1, while Colomb expected to spend a few weeks at her resort before being able to fly home. Mrs Colomb’s husband Michel, 71, was earlier released from the hospital after treatment for injuries including lacerations to the head. Mrs Colomb holds no animosity towards the Siam Safari company that organized the tour, she said, adding that she had been a satisfied repeat customer of the operator for years.
