Son of Mercy Hony of Ridgefield, CT. Married in 1815, a union which produced 2 sons and 2 daughters. Sons Timothy and Napoleon were riders.

1828, first used the title of Columbian Circus. 1830 had a 90’ round-top; added a menagerie, 1844, leasing the stock, an elephant and 6 cages, from James June.

Hired George F. Bailey, who became his son-in-law, and eventually his manager. P. T. Barnum was a partner and treasurer for the organization at one time. P. T. Barnum was a partner and treasurer for the organization at one time.
