Herbert Taylor was born in Margate in 1872 and grew up at George Sangers Circus Sanger. In 1888 he started as elephant keeper for Sangers elephants, and became later head lion tamer for Georges brother John Sanger. In 1904 he bought "the cruet", Goerge Lockharts four elephants.
The fate of Vinegar and Mustard II is unknown.
Salt and Saucy stayed with Taylor until 1922 when they were bought by John Broncho Bill Swallow.
