1991: In 1991 the zoo was privatized.

2016-06-23: In June 2016 the city formed a bias about closing the 140-year-old zoo, and relocate most of the animals to nature reservesn. The zoo property will be converted into an ecopark. Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta said that the zoo’s 2,500 animals will be gradually moved to nature reserves in Argentina which can provide a more suitable environment. The 44-acre zoo in the Palermo neighbourhood will become an ecopark when it is reopened later this year.

2018: During the government on duty 2018, the Zoo was closed by the Municipality of the City of Buenos Aires and was renamed "Eco Parque"
