In the book "Elephant - The Lady Boss" the author C. H. Basappanavar writes in the prologue at page XXIII:

"It was in the year 1964, while I was working as Assistant Comservator of Forests of Shimaoga, a baby elephant was required to be donated to Canada by the Indian Government. [....] as an appropiate gift to children of that country by late Jawaharlal Nehru, the then prime minister of India, during his forthcoming official visit.
