In May 1926, the Overton Park Zoo purchased two elephants, Florence and Alice, from the Great American Circus. At the time of her death, Park Superintendent N.J. Metroy valued Florence to be worth $3500. Florence weighed 5500 pounds. Contradictory records: The North American Regional Studbook for the Asian Elephant lists the death of Florence in approximately 1952. They were contacted with this error in 09/2010. A 1946 news article published by The Billboard notified the public of her death.
