The two elephants were brought to Calcutta airport on Tuesday from Jaldapara sanctuary. The aircraft landed at the airport around 6am and took off at 10am. The flight, usually from Delhi to Tokyo via Bangkok, was diverted through Calcutta on Wednesday for carrying the elephants. While Rahul was born in Holong in 2002, Devi was born in Chilapata in 2000. The two have the same father, a Tusker named Nilkanto, but different mothers. 2014-11-10: The Okinawa Zoo & Museum has announced on February 10 that 13-year-old Asian elephant Ryuka is pregnant. It is the first time that an elephant has become pregnant in Okinawa. She is scheduled to give birth around next March. Ten elephants have been born in Japan since the war. 2017-01-23: A female Indian elephant named Rubi raised at the Okinawa Zoo & Museum in Okinawa died on January 22. She lived for two years and ten months. Her appetite and health condition had declined a few days before her passing. The Okinawa Zoo & Museum will hold a press conference on January 23 to explain the cause of her death. Rubi was the first elephant born in Okinawa, and many visitors loved her.
