Ganga is a living Female ♀ Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) , located at the Jumbo Circus, in India.
Ganga arrived in 2003-00-00 to the Jumbo Circus, relocated from the Sonepur Fair, in India.
Ganga lives together with 5 other elephants at the Jumbo Circus:
Ganga was born unknown 2000.
Sources said during their performance at Ludhiana on January 30, 2003, circus authorities had claimed that the elephant couple Anarkali and Lucky Prasad had given birth to a male calf. A veterinary doctor from Ludhiana had given a certificate regarding that. But nine months later, on October 29, 2003, during their performance in Delhi, circus authorities claimed that it was actually a female calf. They procured a certificate from a veterinarian in Delhi saying that. But during the same month, when Jumbo Circus was in Panipat, some Ludhiana residents visited its show and got to know that the calf named Ganesh, who was born in their city, had become Ganga. As a result, they suspected foul play. "Training males is difficult as compared to females. We can say females are less violent. So the circus might have sold the male calf and purchased a female, which is illegal. We want a thorough probe," said an animal rights activist.
