Bismarck was born wild 1865? at Africa unspecified location. and imported 1866 by Lorenzo Casanova expeditions

Probably the same african elephant imported by Reiche to New York from Hagenbecks in Hamburg 1866.

Stated nine years old when at Forepaugh’s Menagerie in 1874:

The menagerie is pretty well stocked, the nine-year old elephant Bismarck and several lions forming the features.
