† Abele is a dead Female ♀ African forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis), , who died 1956-05-13 at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, in United States, . Official death reason described as collapsed on the way from Madison Square Garden to train station.
Abele was born wild 1941.
In June 1947, Howard Bary docked in Bronx, New York, with an African forest elephant for Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. He had spent several months in the Belgian Congo as an agent for the show. Two elephants were originally acquired and shipped across the Atlantic Ocean, however one died four days prior to arrival in America on 22 June 1947.
