This African elephant is known from a Mughal Empire painting dated ca 1616.

Professor Emeritus William K Ehrenfeld was medical doctor and a collector of Indian art, making frequent trips to India and London to expand his collection. It eventually became known around the world as the Ehrenfeld Collection.
