The I UCN/SSC African Elephant Specialist
Group
(AfESG) was founded in he mid 70s and is connected to the
Species
survival commission in the
Conservation
of Nature (IUCN)'>IUCN (International Union of
Conservation
of nature).
The mission of the
Conservation
of Nature (IUCN)'>IUCN SSC African Elephant Specialist
Group
is to promote the long-term
Conservation
of Africas elephants throughout their range.
AfESG is a
Group
of technical experts focusing on the
Conservation
and management of African elephants.
AfESG also manage a database of wild elephant populations in Africa, and issues Pachyderm, the Journal of the African Elephant, African Rhino and Asian Rhino Specialist
Groups
.
There are presently three AfESG local offices
The AfESG secretariat in Nairobi (Kenya)
The AfESG West Africa Programme Office (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso)
Central Africa Programme Office (Yaounde, Cameroon)
