Down at Baldwin Park, near Los Angeles, the winter quarters for the organization, Joe Reed, a trainer, was killed by an elephant named Prince a few weeks ago. Although the coroner’s jury did not recommend death for Prince, the animal is being kept chained to the floor in his shed until the owners decide what shall be done with him. No one goes near him except to take him food and water. He merely stands weaving to and fro, shaking his massive head. Prince gored Reed to death in the exercise ring.
