Marizles Wirth , circus director in Australia Born 1875? dead 1963? , daughter of artist John Wirth and other Sarah Phillips . 1890: During that first year, the Wanganui Chronicle reported on May 2: "The equestrian acts were particularly good... Little Edith is a very graceful child, and Miss Marizles Wirth gave a splendid exhibition of bareback riding and juggling, keeping balls, rings and knives going without mistake, while riding at a gallop in a standing position on a barebacked horse." The deaths of John junior in 1894 and Harry in 1895 left control to Philip and George, and their sister Marizles. The year 1963 saw the end of one era - the closure of the fabulous Wirth's Circus, the largest such operation in Australia, which had entertained Australians since its opening on New Year's Day 1880. Now, the last of the Wirths, Marizles Margaret, has died. She was 88.
