At the age of 14, he looked for a job in the Zoo and they took him on. Over the next 51 years, he put this knowledge into practice, eventually becoming senior curator at Dublin Zoo, and a key figure in the Zoo’s development. Gerry and his wife Catherine brought up five children. The two boys – Gerry Creighton Jr. and James Creighton – followed in their father’s footsteps and both are senior keepers at the zoo.
