BANGKOK, March 7 -- Rare twin baby elephants have been offered for sale -- with an asking price of $40,000 for the pair -- because their owner says they have brought him nothing but bad luck, a Thai newspaper reported Thursday. Krua-un Sala-ngam, from Ban Taklang village in the northeastern province of Surin, was quoted by the Nation as saying he has suffered a serious illness ever since the twins, named Joom and Jim, were born two years ago. In addition, his 13-year-old son, who he had hoped to pass on his skills as a Mahout, or elephant trainer, died in a motorcycle accident last year. Krua-un said he hopes to break his run of bad luck by selling the twins for 1 million baht ($40,000).
