Pat Guthrie was in the circus business for a long time. He had Jules and Beck Circus out from 1982 to 1988 then he created the Guthrie Bros. Circus that was on the road from 1990 to 1995.

In 1981 Guthrie bought his first elephant, Myrtle, from Hoxie Bros circus.
