Károly "Gyapi" Pintér , zoo elephant keeper in Hungary Born 1952 in Hungary dead 2022-11-26 in Hungary . Gyapi - as everyone knew Károly Pintér - was an employee of Budapest Zoo from the summer of 1974 until December 2012, i.e. for more than 38 years. He graduated in Kaposvár as a livestock plant engineer, and at the Zoo he soon became the caretaker of the residents of the Elephants, and later the head keeper. He was one of the colleagues who helped the elephants Kali and Arun , who arrived in 1979 started teaching and training, partly by learning the tricks of working with elephants from older zoo colleagues, partly from an elephant trainer who came from the Erfurt Zoo and stayed in Budapest for a while. Later, he worked with four more elephants (Hella, Zitta, Assam, Angele), not to mention the other residents of the Elephant House, the hippos and the wide-mouthed rhinoceroses, tapirs, and several other animals that were previously shown here.
