Snow established the Oakland Zoo in 1922 on 19th St and Harrison St in downtown Oakland. Over the years the zoo relocated several times: to Sequoia Park, Joaquin Miller Park and finally in 1939 to Durant Park. Henry A. Snows son, Sidney Snow, was a vital part of Oakland Zoo's history. He personally procured the land for Oakland Zoo and founded the Alameda County Zoological Society, now the East Bay Zoological Society. Snow served as Director of Oakland Zoo from 1936 until his death in 1959.
