Born 1811 , son of artist Samuel Philadelphia .

Alexander after having performed as a traveling magician (as Philidor), had switched his activities to wild animal exhibition.

Alexandre Philadelphia (whose legal name was Meyer) and his wife, née Josepha Rosine Auguste, had six children: Albert, Rudolf, Franziska, Wilhelm, Adolf and Friederike, who all generated lineages of animal trainers and circus artists that are still active to this day.
