W. Herring, dealer in all sorts of pheasants, fancy poultry, swans, water fowl, gold and silver fish, sporting and fancy dogs : menagerie, New Road, near Regents Park, London, late Brookes.

William Herring became proprietor of the menagerie on New Road in 1813, following prior ownership by Joshua Brookes (d. 1803) and Paul Brookes. See: Plumb, C. The Georgian menagerie. London : I.B. Tauris, 2015 (pages 31-33). Herring was the original owner of Jacques Laurent Agasse's Zebra (1803), an oil painting now in the collection of the Yale Center for British Art.
