Comments / picturesJean (or more likely Jan or Johan) van Sevender was a Dutch-bornpurveyer of linen who lived in the Faubourg Saint-Germain in Paris. On 21 January 1627, he signed a contract with the duc de Chevreuse, according to which he agreed to pay a sum of money up front in return for the fees earnedby exhibiting the dukes elephant to the public.
