Comments / picturesThe forest resources of Myanmar scientifically managed since 1856 have been decreasing due to population pressure and rising demands for forest lands and products. Forest cover assessed by Landsat images showed the country has 344,237 km2 of forests, 50.9% of the total land area in 1989. Deforestation rate was 220,000 ha/year during 1975-1989
