During summer 2020, Chang experienced problems with his temporal gland, which caused him problems, and was surgically operated.

2020-07-24: Chang was reported dead. Veterinarians and his keepers had been optimistic, when on Monday he started eating again. However, after so long illness, the immune system has been weakened, and that has probably been the cause of the diarrhea that eventually caused his body to go into shock.
