Hugo was born wild 1971, captured 1971 .

Former editions of the North American Regional Studbook list this elephant with a Temporary Studbook Number (T1390), lacking "supporting documentation to validate their identity." The 2010 Edition gives this elephant an official studbook number.

This is Gary Hill delivering "Hugo" to me at the Circus World Park in 1974, I forget his original name but as soon as he touched the ground he became "Hugo Schmitt".
