Barnum Bessie was born wild .
Bessie were purchased by Bailey in the 1890's for the European Tour. After the Barnum & Bailey merge with Ringling Brothers, she became one of two Bessie's on the show. The Barnum Bessie remained at winter quarters from 1920-1925 until her sale to the Christy Brothers Show. It is assumed she died in their winter quarters. Ringling Bessie stayed with the new show until her death in 1930.
