When she arrived in Grand Rapids, she was estimated to be 10 to 12 years old. She was euthanized after losing 1,000 of her 6,000 pounds, her health spiraling rapidly after her beloved trainer and handler took a sick leave of his own, zoo staff said. Some attributed the elephant's swift decline to her separation from her trainer, Harry Maxim. But tests after her death revealed what looked like the signs of a stroke, zoo staff said.
