Tesso Nilo WWF-BKSDA Flying Squad camp, located at Tesso Nilo National park, in Riau, Indonesia , was founded in 2004 and the first elephant arrived in 2004.
"The Elephant Flying Squad consist of four trained elephants and eight mahouts. This team does regular patrol around its operation area in Tesso Nilo National Park- Riau Province- Sumatra, Indonesia to anticipate human elephant-conflict. The patrol is done with elephant ride or with vehicle patrols (car, motor bike).The team helps drive back wild elephants that go out of from Tesso Nilo NP back to the park. This program is collaboration between WWF-Indonesia and the Conservation Authority of Riau since April 2004, and to date has been proven to significantly reduce human-elephant conflict in the area of its operation.
