Comments / pictures1912: The House was founded on January, 8, 1912 by Vladimir Leonidovich Durov, born on June, 25, 1863 in Moscow to a wealthy aristocratic family in Moscow. He was famous circus actor, clown satirist, animal trainer, writer, scientist, animal psychologist, the first Honored circus Actor of Russia. He was the oldest son of Leonid Dmitrievich Durov (1832-67), a hereditary Lord from the Province of Moscow. His brother, Anatoly Leonidevich Durov was born on November 26, 1864. He was the fifth child and second son of Leonid Dmitrievich Durov. They had three sisters; Margarita (1854-?); Konkordya (1860-?), among whose descendants is Lev Durov, the famous Russian actor; Liudmila (1862-?); and a younger sister, Valentina (1866-1940). 1912: In the same year, Durovs first elephant arrives 1912 from Hagenbecks in Hamburg, the Asian female elephant was named Baby, maybe after the famous elephant Baby at Circus Carre in Netherlands, which in 1906 became Circus Kludskys third elephant.

Like many fellow Russians, Alexander Terekhov, a former elephant trainer at the Durov Animal Theater, has lost his job.

2001: February 22, 2001/Moscow, RUSSIA An elephant crushed its trainer, Alexander Terekhov, to death after a performance at Durov\'s Little Corner, a small animal theatre in Moscow. Interfax news agency said ambulance workers confirmed the incident. (Reuters 02/01)
