Comments / pictures
The first circus to appear in Oldenburg after the Second World War was the Hermann Schickler circus in the fall of 1947.
When
Josef Schickler
(*March 1922 + October 1983), the eldest son of the circus founder, returned to Bremen from captivity in 1946, the now 56-year-old Hermann had already been setting up his tent in the Bremen area for a year with the permission of the Allied authorities and giving guest performances may. The first venues were Bremen, Oldenburg, Delmenhorst and Wilhelmshaven.
The Schickler circus was known for its horse dressage. In its best years, the circus had up to 160 horses in the stable tents. After brilliant guest appearances, there were many setbacks.
In 1962, the Schickler circus closed its doors forever.
