Walding Tiergarten is situated on a hill in Mühlviertel, Upper Austria (Ober-Österreich) close to the town Linz.
It was developed on a former dairy-farm by the present owner Mrs Angela Mairs, step-parents Karl (d. 1988) and Maria Mair (d. 1992).

In the past the two elephants were taken for walks in the nearby forest, but later they started Fighting with each other so much so they can not be controlled anymore, and they were therefore since 1999 left separated in their own enclosures, and could not enymore be taken out for walks. The last elephant Mary, died in 2014. The elephant enclosure was redesigned as Bimbi-Land, where children can interact with animals, and obtain pedagogic information.
