Description

Bartel Verhagen elephants, in Amsterdam, Netherlands . The last elephant left in 1703. Bartel Verhagen elephants closed down in 1703.


Comments / picturesBertel Verhagen toured Europe in the 1680s with his female Indian elephant, and he also founded the menagerie Die Witte Olifant in 1681.

When Bartel Verhagen died in 1703, his assistant Jan Janszoon rented her to Abraham Sever who brought her to Scotland and Edinburgh.
