Comments / picturesThe Harriet Fortinbrass was a British woman who had come to the Indian subcontinent in the 1920s. Fortinbrass had adopted a young elephant whose mother had been shot dead by her father, a British diplomat. The life with her ward inspired her to author a book with the title "Ganesha: Ten Years Living With an Indian Elephant".
