Description

Aranjuez royal menageri, located at Royal Palace of Aranjuez, in Madrid, Spain .

Comments / picturesBy the spring of 1623, the animal was living in relative comfort in the royal menagerie in Aranjuez, a days journey from Madrid. Charles, Prince of Wales (1600–1649), in Spain to negotiate his marriage to the sister of King Philip IV (1605–1665), was entertained at Aranjuez in April and there saw and admired the elephant, who was then about four years old and still relatively small.
