Description
Albertus Seba, in Amsterdam,
Netherlands
, was founded in 1665. Albertus Seba closed down in 1736.
Comments / pictures
Dutch pharmacist, zoologist and collector. Seba accumulated one of the largest cabinets of curiosities in the Netherlands during his time. He sold one of his cabinets in 1717 to Peter the Great of Russia. His later collections, incuding an elephant baby pickled in

, were auctioned after his death, and was bought by the king of Sweden, who gave it to
Carl Linnaeus
.
This specimen was the first elephant
Carl Linnaeus
described, however being an African elephant,
Carl Linnaeus
described it as Elephas maximus, Asian elephant.
