Comments / pictures2012-07-03:Tamil Nadu\'s first Kumkhi elephant camp in the plains will start functioning at Chadivayal (also spelled Sadivayal) near Kovai Coutrallam at the foothills of Siruvani on Wednesday as part of Rs 4.36 crore human-animal conflict mitigation project. Nanjan (51) and Pari (31) will now start work with the forest department to scare away wild animals which stray into human habitats. During non-conflict periods, the duo would be used for safaris for visiting tourists in the Siruvani forests.

Situated at the foothills of Siruvani in Coimbatore. As the camp is located close to Kovai Coutrallam Water Falls and the picturesque Siruvani Hills, the government had mooted the idea of elephant safari at Chadivayal.

2013-10-24: The Forest Department on Thursday night deployed two Kumki (tamed/trained) elephants, Nanjan and Pari, at Kuppepalayam near Thondamuthur to send back the lone female elephant and a Herd deep into the forests.

2015-10: At the Chadivayal camp, Masini’s schedule includes a breakfast comprising ragi, rice, jaggery, sugarcane and salt. She then goes out for grazing and for a walk for about two to three kms. The camp has two more Kumki elephants - Sujay (44) and Pari (36). While Pari came to the Chadivayal camp from Kozhikamudhi near Top Slip, Sujay from the Mudumalai camp.

2019-07-04: Kumki elephants Suyambu (24) and Venkatesh (32) from Anamalai Tiger Reserve will be shifted to Chadivayal camp of Coimbatore forest division.

The two will replace kumkis Cheran (32) and John (27) of Chadivayal camp, who will be sent to Theppakkadu in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. Cheran and John were shifted from Theppakkadu to Chadivayal in April last year.
