Comments / pictures
"The gentleman you are asking about was named Coulson H. Glick. He was a businessman who threw his career away to get more involved with his hobby of training animals. 25 years later ( 1948 ) he was still training animals for the movies and now launched full scla einto the importing of animals. He owned and operated the Bird Wonderland Zoo near Van Nuys, CA. for years.
The article your inquiries refer to was in the Billboard on July 2, 1947 on page 86. Glick had captured a load of animals in Siam and Bangkok via Singapore. He chartered a DC-4 airplane from the Pacific Overseas Airlines for $16,200 to bring three elephants, a Malaysian bear, cobras, Cranes, Mynahs and Storks. This flight became the first animals to be brought to the US by airpalne. It took two days to get across the ocean and land in Ontario, CA. near Los Angeles. There is further documentation to indicate the Bird Wonderland Zoo was still in operation in 1954 with an A.A. Glick at the helms." //Bob Cline
