Comments / pictures
In December 1992, a keeper was leading Ginny, Lucky and Alport to the elephant exhibit when Ginny attacked and killed the man. The elephant program made the transition to protected contact.
After the death of Alport in November 2007, Lucky remained as a single elephant. The San Antonio Zoo has made plans to bring in a companion for Lucky until a new African elephant exhibit is constructed, at which time the two female Asians will be transferred to a new facility and African elephants will be brought to fill the new compound.
