The Hattiesburg Zoo is located among a grove of oak and pine trees in Kamper Park. The zoo takes up 12 acres of the 40 acre park. Upon entering the Zoo is a promenade that leads to the Africa section; this area contains prairie dogs. The African Veldt contains antelope, monkeys, ostrichs, servals and zebras. In the South American exhibit area are capybaras, iguanas, jaguars, macaws, howler monkeys, llamas, tapirs and tigers. Down the tiger boardwalk one can get an up-close view of American alligators. The park area has landscaped walking trails, grassy picnic areas, and playgrounds.
