Comments / picturesPreviously known as Royal Bardia National Park (RBNP), Bardia National Park is situated in the mid far western Terai, east of the Karnali River, Nepal. The park is the largest and most undisturbed wilderness area in the Terai. About 70% of the park is covered with forest with the balance a mixture of grassland, savannah and riverine forest. It is also the home of one of the last known herds of wild elephants in Nepal.

1987: there were only two bulls within the Royal Bardia National Park (RBNP) in 1987, but in early nineties a Herd of 25 elephants arrived from other areas, including India.

2018: BNP holds a large population of residential elephants (n~80) as well as itinerant herds of apr 40 elephants elephants that travel north from Indian forests (Pradhan et al., 2007).
