Amersfoort Zoo, located at Barchman Wuytierslaan 224, Birkhoven, in Amersfoort, Netherlands , was founded in 1948, opened for public in 1948.
Winthida has the leadership of the Herd. She is not a born leader but the Group has to become a Herd. Did worked in Burma for the Burmees timber-coperation. She is the mother of Jula who came with her mother from Burma to Amersfoort. Jula has as a great protection by her mom and therefore she is number 2 now in the Group. Chit Mi Mi was very important for us when Sammy came to Amersfoort. He was 11 months old. She was his foster-mother. And has take care for him the first 6 years. She is very intelligent. In the Group shes the last in rank. Still looking for a lot of contact with Sammy. Khine War War is the mother of our baby elephant Indra, the father was the bull Ramon from Rotterdam. She also came from Burma to Amersfoort. Khine War War is a great mother, and will take over the leading role in the Group in a few years.
Sammy grew up inside the Herd and has to much respect for the females, we hope he will learn to be more dominant at Rotterdam Zoo. At this moment there is no exact date known when Alexander will move to another location and when Sammy will return to Amersfoort. Khine War War is the dominant female with her daughter Indra on the second place, next comes Jula and Chit Mi Mi is last in hierarchy.
