From Biology, Medicine, and Surgery of Elephants, 2006 by Murray Fowler, Susan K. Mikota
Bloat and
Constipation
occur primarily due to unsuitable food with too high a fiber content, and cases occur most often during the dry season. Soapy warm water enemas are given as treatment. Bloat is also treated with antiflatulen (Tympasol®, Bremer Pharma GMBH, Germany) orally. For an
Adult
elephant 300 ml of Tympasol® mixed with 3 liters of warm water is given. Vitamin B complex may be given as supportive treatment.
Biology, Medicine, and Surgery of Elephants, 2006 by Murray Fowler, Susan K. Mikota
Treatment
Attempt can be made to administer 100 ml of antacid and anti-bloat syrup (DIGENE®, Abbott India Limited, Goa, India) orally to the elephant.
A second treatment may be to encourage the elephant to walk and sit down and stand up a few times, and/or walking the elephant up and down a hill.
