Comments / pictures

The very first elephant purchased by the Hagenbeck family.

Bought by Carl Gottfried Hagenbeck from a british animal dealer in 1860 for the cheap prize of 80 punds, since it was lame in the right hind leg.

Since it did not recover, and after some time could not even stand up in the stable, it was sold to Hamburg Museum.

The elephant was brought to Hamburg Museum, where it was given poison by injection. Since the elephant did not die, it was stucked like a pig.
