Comments / pictures

In 1966, Buckles Woodcock acquired Kenya from Louis Goebel in California. She was incorporated into the act the following year. Around this time she was the newest member of a seven act - Anna May, Jean, Millie & Stella, and former Besalou elephants Opal and Kae. Stella (1965), Kenya (1966) and Louie (1967) were the first elephants trained by Buckles. Kenya had the distinction of being the only African elephant with a circus when she was imported.
After her performing days, she arrived at Mac MacDonald's quarters in San Antonio. Louisville was selected because it was one of the Polack Show's best Shrine dates. Kenya was presented to the zoo by the Shrine Temple as a political gesture.
