Vilja was born wild 1949.
Vilja was bought for 12.000 German Marks (etwa 6000 Euro) in 1952 by the Stuttgart Zoo. Her 60th birthday was celebrated in January 2009 with a vegetable and fruit cake. They stated she was the oldest elephant living in Europe.
